Long Box Calls

I feel long boxes are an under used call. Most everyone knows how good they are for locating birds. They cut the wind and reach farther because they have more volume and usually a higher pitch than most calls. The long boxes of today have evolved into calls that can be used for close-in work along with locating. Most short boxes produce a two-toned "yelp" where a good long box produces a three-toned "yelp".

It took more than three years of working on and off before I had a long box sound that I liked. I want to thank two of the best box call makers in the country for advice and help along the way. I want to give a special thanks to Betty Coleman for the art instruction. I had absolutely no previous art experience and she had her work cut out.

I use mostly Poplar, Butternut, and Black Limba for my long boxes. Lid woods I use are Black Walnut, Yellowheart, Cherry, and some Canarywood. I might have some other woods available at times, so just ask.

I offer a field grade model and a deluxe version, "The Diva", with checking, inlays, and some art on the lid.
